Frequently Asked Questions

How many people does the hall hold?

The capacity of seated people in Coalport Village Hall is about 80 persons.

What are the start and end times of the hire periods?

Each hire period is roughly 5 hours: 8am - 1pm, 1pm - 6pm, 6pm - 11pm. There is some flexibility in this although it also depends on any other hire period in the same day.

How much does it cost to hire the hall?

The general Hiring Fees for not-for-profit hire are on the Rates page - there will be a surcharge for profit-making enterprises.

Is the hall available on 'x' date?

See the Availability calendar page.

How do I book the hall for an event?

Just follow the simple 4 steps on the Booking page.

What are the Terms and Conditions?

Please download and read the Terms and Conditions of Hire (a PDF document). It is a pre-requisite of any booking that these Terms and Conditions are formally agreed upon.

What time do I need to vacate the hall at night?

Because we have neighbours immediately adjacent to the Hall we expect functions to finish at 11pm and guests to leave shortly afterwards. The whole site, including car-park, must be cleared of people & cars by midnight.

Is it possible to cook / serve hot food?

The kitchen in the hall includes an industrial gas cooker/oven but there is a nominal charge of £5 for use of the kitchen to cover the cost of the gas and any cleaning.

Can I hire a band or DJ for my event?

We have an entertainments license so live music and/or a DJ would be fine.

Can I serve alcoholic drinks?

We do not have a license to sell alcoholic drinks although you can apply for a Temporary Event Notice if you want to run a paid bar. There is a local public house that we can put you in contact with who may run a bar for you (but you still need to apply for a Temporary Event Notice). However, if you intend to supply the alcoholic drinks free-of-charge, or people bring their own there is no problem.

Is there anywhere to eat nearby?

Opposite the hall is a cafe (in the same building as the Youth Hostel) that serves snacks and drinks although this is closed during the Winter. A short walk in an easterly direction brings you to the Brewery Inn which serves food all through the day, from a 9 am breakfast through to 7.30 pm. A short walk in a westerly direction brings you to the Shakespeare Inn - this is only open in the evenings (from 5pm) on week-days but also 12 noon - 3pm at weekends.

Can I hire a bouncy castle for the hall?

The roof beams are very low and so we can only allow a bouncy castle to be placed outside on the patio area. There are specific rules about the supervision of bouncy castles which can be viewed on the Terms and Conditions of Hire. The maximum size that can fit into the usable patio area is 15 feet x 25 feet.
